I-AIIG Visits TUM Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence

July 8, 2026

On July 3, 2026, a delegation from Tsinghua University’s Institute for AI International Governance (I-AIIG) visited the Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence (IEAI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The delegation included Research Fellows Wang Jingyu, Song Yuxin, and Sheng Shuyang, as well as Foreign Affairs Assistant Chen Fan. The delegation met with Professor Christoph Lütge, Director of IEAI, and Researcher Alexander Kriebitz to discuss AI governance, AI ethics, and international cooperation.

Kriebitz presented recent research activities at IEAI, emphasizing health-related AI projects and advances in multimodal medical research. These initiatives explore applications such as AI-assisted diabetes management, personalized medicine, and multi-agent systems, while addressing ethical and governance issues, including algorithmic fairness, data privacy, explainability, and cross-border data use in healthcare contexts.

The two sides exchanged views on recent developments in global AI governance. The German side shared updates on the implementation of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act and related policy discussions, while the Chinese side presented ongoing work on AI capability indices and soft power research, as well as recent developments in China’s AI governance framework. The discussions also addressed emerging challenges such as autonomous driving regulation and AI supply chain resilience. Both parties noted the importance of balancing technological innovation, safety, and international cooperation, particularly in high-impact application domains such as healthcare and autonomous systems.

The meeting also touched upon broader international platforms, including the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance and the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Both sides discussed opportunities for future joint activities and longer-term academic cooperation. They expressed a shared interest in strengthening exchanges on AI safety, ethical frameworks, and international policy research, and in contributing to the global dialogue on responsible AI development.
