On June 30, 2026, a delegation from the Institute for AI International Governance (I-AIIG) at Tsinghua University visited the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) in Berlin to discuss AI governance, digital transformation, and emerging technology policy.

The I-AIIG delegation included Research Fellow Wang Jingyu, Sheng Shuyang, and Song Yuxin, along with Chen Fan, Foreign Affairs Assistant. They were welcomed by Dr. Maurice Stenzel and Daniel Pothmann from the “Human in the Loop” project.

The meeting opened with an introduction to HIIG’s “Human in the Loop” project, which examines how to embed meaningful human oversight across the lifecycle of AI-enabled decision-making systems. The discussion covered AI governance, digital transformation, technology regulation, and the role of interdisciplinary research in supporting responsible innovation and public policy.

The I-AIIG delegation presented the institute’s recent work on international AI governance, global digital governance, and international cooperation. They also shared updates on various international initiatives, including I-AIIG’s participation in an official side event at the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, its upcoming World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) session, and preparations for the International AI Cooperation and Governance Forum 2026, to be held in Hong Kong this November.

The meeting highlighted numerous shared research interests between the two institutes and explored opportunities for future collaboration, including academic exchanges, joint research, publications, and participation in international conferences and dialogue platforms. Both sides expressed interest in maintaining close contact and in strengthening cooperation on AI governance and related global policy issues.
