On March 24, 2025, Mr. Guillaume Arnould, Executive Director of the New French-Chinese Institute, visited the Institute for AI International Governance of Tsinghua University (I-AIIG). He was welcomed by Vice Dean Liang Zheng and I-AIIG researchers.
During the meeting, Liang Zheng outlined I-AIIG’s development, research priorities, and role in advancing global AI governance frameworks. “I-AIIG is dedicated to facilitating academic exchange and multistakeholder collaboration to contribute to global AI governance and ensure responsible AI development,” he stated.
Mr. Arnould shared insights on the background of the New French-Chinese Institute. “AI is advancing rapidly as a transformative technology, bringing both opportunities and challenges,” he noted. “Ethics, data protection, and employment are key issues that we must address.” He announced that the institute will host the Fourth New Franco-Chinese University Economic Forum in Lyon in June 2025 under the theme “AI Challenges and Opportunities in France and China.” “The forum will address technological advancements, ethical considerations, and the societal impacts of AI,” he said, extending a warm invitation to I-AIIG representatives to participate in the event.
In response, Liang Zheng expressed appreciation for the invitation and underscored the broad scope of China-France collaboration in AI governance. “China and France show significant potential for cooperation in AI governance,” he remarked. Liang Zheng also invited Mr. Arnould and his team to attend the International AI Cooperation and Governance Forum 2025, an event aimed at fostering multistakeholder dialogue on global AI governance. “I-AIIG seeks to leverage this platform to advance international cooperation and support the responsible development of AI,” he emphasized.
