On May 30, 2023, Huang Jingbo, the Director of the United Nations University Institute in Macau (UNU Macau), paid a visit to the Institute for AI International Governance of Tsinghua University (I-AIIG) and met with Xue Lan, Dean of I-AIIG.
Both sides had a deep discussion about cooperation in the field of AI governance. Prof. Xue first expressed his warm welcome to Dr. Huang’s visit and pointed out that AI governance is a guarantee to the sound development of AI technology. “I-AIIG would like to strengthen cooperation with UNU Macau in AI governance-related academic research, training programs, and talent exchange, jointly promoting responsible development of AI,” he added. Xue also invited UNU Macau and other UN agencies to join the International AI Cooperation and Governance Forum 2023 hosted by Tsinghua University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in December 2023.
Huang thanked I-AIIG’s support for the 2023 World Data Forum Macau Satellite Event and hoped the two institutes could expand collaboration in AI governance, especially in AI research, education, and global cooperation network building. “I would like to use the Forum as an opportunity and invite multiple stakeholders, in particular representatives from developing countries, to join. AI governance requires more voices from the developing world,” she said.
