April 22, 2026

On April 20, 2026, a delegation from the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, led by President Sylvia Maria Schwaag Serger and Fellow Bo Inge Manfred Normark, visited the Institute for AI International Governance (I-AIIG) at Tsinghua University. Liang Zheng, Vice Dean of I-AIIG; Associate Professor Chen Tianhao from the School of Public Policy and Management; Sun Youbang, Assistant Researcher from the Department of Electronic Engineering; and Li Shuo from WattMan Robot, attended the meeting alongside I-AIIG’s research team.

Liang Zheng welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of I-AIIG’s work, stating: “We are committed to advancing interdisciplinary research that bridges technology and public policy, and strengthening international dialogue on AI governance.” The day’s discussions focused on how AI can support industrial transformation and contribute to global governance frameworks. I-AIIG also shared its experience in building cross-disciplinary platforms that connect academia, industry, and policymakers, emphasizing collaboration across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and South America in AI governance, education, and applied research.

The two sides exchanged views on the use and governance of AI in industrial contexts, particularly on how to enhance safety and decision-making reliability in sectors such as energy and manufacturing. Topics included the use of robotics to replace high-risk labor, multi-sensor integration, and intelligent control systems, with reference to real-world applications in heavy industries such as steel production. In addition, dialogues addressed AI ethics and governance, including China’s latest ethical review mechanisms, intellectual property protection, and the safety and controllability of AI systems. Both sides explored opportunities for future China–Europe collaboration in green industrial transition, AI standards and ethics, and industrial applications, expressing a shared interest in deepening dialogue and cooperation.
