On July 9, 2025, a delegation from the Institute for AI International Governance of Tsinghua University (I-AIIG) visited the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) in Geneva to exchange perspectives on global governance of artificial intelligence (AI) and explore avenues for international cooperation. The visit took place during the delegation’s participation in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). The delegation was led by Professor Liang Zheng, Vice Dean of I-AIIG, and included Professor Shen Weixing from the School of Law of Tsinghua University, along with members of their research team.

Linda van der Horst, Senior Advisor and Programme Manager of HD’s China Programme, and Neil Davison, Senior Adviser on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies, welcomed the group. The HD team introduced their work on AI governance, emphasizing their experience in facilitating dialogue, promoting responsible technology use, and strengthening international collaboration in the civilian application of emerging technologies.
“As AI technologies evolve rapidly, international cooperation is essential to ensure their responsible use,” said Linda van der Horst. “HD’s experience in mediation and policy dialogue can help bridge gaps between stakeholders.”
Professor Liang presented I-AIIG’s latest achievements in research, platform building, and multilateral engagement. “At I-AIIG, we believe that universities, especially in China, can actively contribute to global science and technology governance,” he remarked. “We are committed to open dialogue and collective action to ensure AI benefits all humanity.”
The discussion covered key topics including AI safety, standard-setting, and inclusive governance models. Both sides agreed on the need for sustained dialogue to align regulatory approaches and mitigate emerging risks.
