Delegation of the University of Manchester Visits I-AIIG

On November 8, 2023, Angelia Wilson, Head of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester, and the delegation visited the Institute for AI International Governance (I-AIIG) at Tsinghua University.

Liang Zheng, Vice Dean of I-AIIG, gave a quick discussion of I-AIIG’s research work, talent development, and international collaboration. Highlighting the I-AIIG’s research focus on major issues and policy needs in the field of international artificial intelligence (AI) governance, Zheng emphasized its participation in global exchanges and collaboration in this field. To that end, the International AI Cooperation and Governance Forum serves as an international platform for multi-stakeholder dialogues. He also introduced the U&AI | AI for SDGs Youth Bootcamp, which aims to discover and nurture excellent talents in the AI field and successfully organized for two consecutive years. Zheng invited experts and scholars from the University of Manchester to participate in the International AI Cooperation and Governance Forum 2023, co-hosted by Tsinghua University and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and held at HKUST on December 8-9.

Angelia expressed her enjoyment at being at Tsinghua University and thanked the I-AIIG for their warm reception. She outlined the University of Manchester’s commitment to talent development and international cooperation, including its role in networking with world-leading universities to establish global courses and facilitate personnel exchanges and visits. Viewing the International AI Cooperation and Governance Forum 2023 as an excellent opportunity for collaboration, she expressed the University of Manchester’s willingness to recommend experts for the Forum and expressed the university’s desire to engage in deeper discussions and cooperation with I-AIIG in areas such as talent cultivation, collaborative research, and international exchanges.

Representatives from the Beijing Office of the University of Manchester and researchers of I-AIIG participated in the meeting for exchanges.
