I-AIIG Holds 2022 Academic Committee Meeting

May 9, 2022

The Institute for AI International Governance (I-AIIG) of Tsinghua University held the 2022 academic meeting on April 26, 2022.

Yang Bin, vice president of Tsinghua University and board director of I-AIIG delivered a welcome remarks by expressing his appreciation to the academic members and other partners for their support to I-AIIG. He hoped that with the support of academic committee, the institute could explore more in new cooperative mechanisms for AI governance and better contribute to global AI development.

“The universities play an important role in AI education and governance,” said Gone Ke, academic member of I-AIIG and executive director of the Chinese Institute for New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies. “Universities should not only strive for theoretical and technological breakthroughs of AI, but also pay close attention to AI education and talent cultivation.”

Last year, Tinghua released the three medium- and long-term plans 2030, which particularly included interdisciplinary research, talent cultivation and international exchange and cooperation in the field of AI.

With the aim to encourage more young people worldwide to better harness AI for sustainable development, last year, I-AIIG and UNDP successfully held the inaugural U&AI Youth Bootcamp. It attracted over 1,300 youths from more than 50 countries around the globe, across the continents of Eurasia, America, Africa, and Oceania. All participants received 31 masterclasses covering how AI could be used for the benefit of human beings.

“The inaugural bootcamp was a good start,” said XUE Lan, dean of I-AIIG, “This year, we will take more efforts in strengthening AI education and talent training, as well as further contributing to the sustainable development of AI.”
