Former UN Under-Secretary-General Fabrizio Hochschild Visits I-AIIG

On March 30, 2026, Fabrizio Hochschild Drummond, Senior Advisor to the Global Youth Development Alliance (GYDA), Senior Advisor and Fellow at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), and former United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General, visited the Institute for AI International Governance (I-AIIG) at Tsinghua University for an academic exchange.

The meeting was attended by Liang Zheng, Vice Dean of I-AIIG; Zhang Wei, Assistant Resident Representative of UNDP China; Zhu Junming, Vice Director at the Institute for Sustainable Development Goals and Associate Dean of the School of Public Policy and Management; Zhang Jian, Vice President and Vice Dean of the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development, and members of I-AIIG’s research team.

Liang Zheng welcomed the delegation and introduced I-AIIG’s efforts to advance research and international dialogue on AI governance.

Drawing on his interdisciplinary background and professional experience, Fabrizio shared his perspective on the rapidly expanding global impact of AI. He noted that AI-related discussions have moved beyond traditional security concerns to include broader societal and economic dimensions, such as social cohesion and labor-market transformation. He stressed the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and international cooperation to ensure that AI development supports both safety and sustainable development objectives.

Participants at the event also exchanged views on data sharing, policy coordination, and future international collaboration opportunities.
