Safe AI Forum Visits I-AIIG

On March 6, 2026, Fynn Heide, Executive Director of the Safe AI Forum (SAIF), along with Saad Siddiqui, Senior AI Policy Researcher at SAIF, and their colleagues, visited the Institute for AI International Governance (I-AIIG) at Tsinghua University. Liang Zheng, Vice Dean of I-AIIG; Xiao Qian, Vice Dean of I-AIIG; and Chen Tianhao, Associate Professor at the School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University, together with experts from China AI Development & Safety Association (CnAISDA) and China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), and members of the I-AIIG research team, attended the meeting.

Liang Zheng welcomed the SAIF delegation and expressed appreciation for their visit.

Chen Tianhao then presented his research on the governance of anthropomorphic AI, covering regulatory considerations surrounding emerging forms of human–AI interaction.

Representatives from SAIF subsequently shared their ongoing work on frontier AI governance and international cooperation. Emmie Hine, Research Fellow at SAIF, presented research on potential regulatory mechanisms for frontier AI within existing governance frameworks. Ben Norman, Megan Cansfield, and Sabrina Shih, visiting researchers from SAIF, presented their recent research on international agreement designs to address extreme AI risks and explored approaches to verifying compliance in the context of frontier AI.

Xiao Qian shared perspectives on the evolving international landscape of AI safety governance and China’s engagement in international dialogue. She noted that “AI governance discussions around the world are gradually moving from abstract principles toward more institutionalized forms of cooperation,” and emphasized that continued dialogue among research institutions and policy communities is essential for building mutual understanding. Xu Peng, engineer at the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) offered perspectives from the industry and research communities on AI governance and safety practices.
